A Spectrum Child

by Emma Dalmayne

A Spectrum Child

Wandering through a coloured mist,

Where no one seems the same,

As to be me it seems everything was wrong,

Wrong clothes ,

Wrong hair,

Wrong name,

Never quite fitting in,

Forever ,standing, out,

Different speech,

Strange rituals,

What on earth ,

Is that about?

A spectrum child,

In an alien world ,

When will they come to get me?

A spectrum child ,

In an alien world,

How could they forget me?

Ambling along I'd sing this song,

Always different,

I've never changed,

But NT friends,

Needed me to blend,

So soon,

That friendship would end,

To blunt,

To strong,

Always right ,

I'm never wrong,

In my aspie head,

I believe ,

That they would see my point,

I'm so naïve,

And when they didn't,

I'd begin,

To regret me.

A spectrum child ,

In an alien world,

When will they come to get me?

A spectrum child,

In an alien world,

How could they forget me?

But no more standing back,

No more fitting in,

I'm different to the end,

Unique,

No trend,

Now I know I have Aspergers,

No settling down,

No need to clown ,

No diluting to try and merge us,

Autistic and proud,

Play hard stimm loud,

Script well and rock when I want to,

And all the while I'm humming my song,

Cos I know now they didn't forget me.
